MUSEUM WALL DESIGN

Spring 2022 | Student Work | Illustrator

This is a museum display for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They wanted to dedicate an entire wall to explain the Lake Superior Food Web. When I first saw the reference, all I understood was how complex it is and not much about what actually eats what. So, my goal was to make it easier to understand while maintaining its overall concept of complexity. By making the design interesting, it could be something people would stop and take some time with to familiarize themselves with every species.

I came up with a solution that I’m calling a bracket system which helps decrease the number of arrows significantly. By matching the arrow direction and fish head direction, it helps viewers understand that the left fish eat the ones on the right. My simple and friendly original illustrations made in Illustrator are welcoming and viewer friendly as opposed to photographed fish which could give an uncomfortable feeling to some. The cut-out fish adds dimensions to the space and is more interesting.
